‘Refudiate’ Named Word of the Year
By Jason Boog on November 15, 2010 4:20 PM

New Oxford American Dictionary has picked ‘Refudiate’ as the 2010 Word of the Year. Other words on the shortlist included crowdsourcing , gleek, retweet, and Tea Party.

This is the opening of the story that is linked to above.

It's great to see this publication believes English is a living language that evolves.

But I found it ironic that no definition was given for the Word of the Year.

  1. emily rooney had the editor of "the word of the year" on her show NPR show today. gaff was made by pailn, who's used the word before and seems like it is a mash between refute and repudiate. some credit (blame) her with creating the mashed word. however, it has been used before. not sure though if it is really a word.
